Bed difference charges in hospitalIn hospital, the charge for a room with a bed difference (sagaku beddo-dai) is paid in full by the patient, on top of the hospital stay covered by health insurance. Choosing such a room is the patient's decision, after explanation and consent. Under a Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare notice, the charge may not be asked in three cases: no written consent that shows the room charge, a room needed for the patient's medical condition, or a room needed for ward management when the patient did not really choose it.
Questions about co-payment ratesIf you think the share of medical costs you pay at the counter is wrong, the Benefits Section of Itabashi's National Health Insurance can check it. Under school age you pay 20 per cent; up to age 69, 30 per cent; ages 70 to 74 normally 20 per cent, or 30 per cent at a higher income. Medical costs also have a ceiling set by income. Have ready your name, date of birth, address, insurance number, phone number, visit date, clinic details and the amount paid. Other health insurance members must ask their own insurer.
Co-payment rate for members aged 70 to 74Members of National Health Insurance aged 70 to 74 pay 20 or 30 per cent of their medical costs at the counter, depending on household income. The rate applies from the month after the 70th birthday. Each year, usually in summer, a new certificate or older-person certificate is mailed, and the rate is reviewed based on the household's resident tax. Members can apply for the 20 per cent rate under an income test; a late application starts the reduction from the following month. The rate changes when household members or income change.
