Acupuncture and massage under National Health Insurance

Overview

National Health Insurance can pay for acupuncture, moxibustion and massage (anma), but only for a limited list of conditions such as neuralgia, rheumatism, frozen shoulder and lower back pain. Massage must be needed for muscle paralysis or joint stiffness after injury or surgery. A doctor's written consent is needed every six months, and acupuncture cannot be combined with medical clinic treatment. Relaxation, daily fatigue, shoulder stiffness, hernia and work injuries are not covered. Fill in the claim form yourself and keep every receipt.
