My wardsMeal costs during a hospital stay
Overview
Hospital meals cost a standard amount per meal, set by age and by whether the household pays resident tax. For people under 70, a household that pays resident tax pays 550 yen per meal. An exempt household pays 270 yen per meal, or 220 yen after 91 days in hospital in the past 12 months. Reduced rates need the Limit Application and Standard Meal Cost Reduction Certificate, which you must show to the hospital in advance; no refund is paid for earlier meals. With a My Number insurance card, the certificate is generally not needed if there were fewer than 91 days in hospital in 12 months.
