Why the burden ratio changed from 20% to 30%
Overview
The burden ratio on the elderly recipient certificate (kōrei jukyūsha-shō) is set per household each year, on 1 August, from the previous year's income. If any insured member aged 70 to 74 in the household has a resident tax taxable income of 1,450,000 yen or more, the household's ratio is generally 30%. Changes can come from a newly insured person turning 70, an amended income declaration, or a move or merger that changes the household. A newcomer to Itabashi first gets 20% until income is confirmed.
