Elderly recipient certificate at 70
Overview
At 70 you receive an elderly recipient certificate (kōrei jukyūsha-shō) for national health insurance. It can be used from the first day of the month after your birthday month, and no application is needed. If you are insured, it is sent by ordinary mail to the household head by the end of your birthday month. People born on the 1st can use it from their birthday, and it is mailed by the end of the month before. If you have a My Number insurance card, you get a certificate notice instead, with your burden ratio, and no elderly recipient certificate.
