National Health Insurance for foreign residents

Guide ProceduresTopic: Foreign residents
  • Foreign residents

Overview

Foreign residents must join National Health Insurance in some cases, for example after arriving in Japan and registering in Itabashi, after moving from another ward, or after leaving workplace insurance. The page lists what to bring for each case, and the rules for stay extensions and household head changes. New arrivals after 2 January also file a simple income declaration for premiums.
