Support for disaster victims

Support program DisasterTopic: Preparedness

Overview

After a fire or flood, the ward offers help to people whose homes or belongings were damaged. Most supports need a damage certificate (risai shomeisho), issued free after a damage survey by ward staff; fire damage certificates come from the fire station. Supports include condolence and disability payments after a designated large disaster, a reconstruction payment for households with badly damaged homes, small emergency and housing repair loans, fee and tax reductions, disposal of disaster waste and free textbooks for schoolchildren. Some loans and supports have income limits.
