Overview

Since late 2024, paper health insurance cards are no longer issued. A My Number card registered as a health insurance card (My Number health insurance card) takes their place. Clinics also accept an eligibility certificate. People who do not have a registered card can show the certificate instead. Eligibility information notices and My Portal help you check your details. Questions about your coverage go to the National Health Insurance and Pension Section, Eligibility and Premium.

No more paper cards

Since 2 December 2024, paper health insurance cards are no longer issued. The My Number card, registered as a health insurance card, is used in their place.

What to show at a clinic

  • My Number health insurance card
  • Eligibility certificate

People aged 70 and over who show the eligibility certificate must also show the senior recipient certificate.

Medical certificates from child medical cost support schemes must also be shown.

Eligibility certificates

Eligibility certificates for the fiscal year 2025 were sent to all household heads in one batch by forwardable registered mail, whether or not the members had a My Number card. The certificate is usable from 1 October 2025. A certificate is also issued to people who join the ward's National Health Insurance later, or whose paper card details changed because of a change in household.

Eligibility information notice

The eligibility information notice lets people with a My Number card check their own details. It can be shown with the My Number card when a clinic cannot read the card. It cannot be used on its own. You can instead show the eligibility screen of My Portal with the card, or download it to your smartphone.
