Birth lump-sum payment under National Health InsuranceInsured people who give birth receive a lump-sum childbirth payment of 500,000 yen per child, paid to the household head. Stillbirths and miscarriages after 85 days of pregnancy are also covered, with a doctor's certificate. With the direct payment system, the hospital receives the payment and you pay only the difference, if any. Without it, apply at the counter or by post after the birth, within two years of the day after the birth. A birth abroad cannot use the direct payment system and must be applied for in person after returning to Japan.
Premium reduction form for the period around childbirthUse this form to claim a reduction of National Health Insurance (NHI) premiums for the period around childbirth, when an insured member gives birth. Attach the documents listed on the form, and bring a power of attorney if someone outside the household files it. The form and a filling example are attached. For the details of the system, see the ward's NHI premium reduction and exemption page.
