Rules for safe cycling

Overview

Cyclists must follow the traffic rules. Ride on the road, keeping to the left, and use the pavement only where a sign allows it, or for children under 13, people 70 and over, people with disabilities, or where needed for safety; on the pavement, give way to pedestrians. At intersections, obey the signals and stop at stop signs. Use lights at night, do not ride after drinking, and wear a helmet, which all cyclists are encouraged to do. Since 1 April 2026, riders aged 16 and over can receive fines under the blue-ticket system for certain violations, such as using a phone while riding.
