How to dispose of items containing mercury

Overview

Items containing mercury, such as thermometers, mercury blood pressure monitors and fluorescent tubes, cannot be accepted at Tokyo's 23-ward incinerators. Burning mercury can pollute the area and harm health, and a shutdown of an incinerator affects garbage disposal across the 23 wards. Thermometers, blood pressure monitors and fluorescent tubes go in non-burnable garbage. Button batteries go in the collection box at the shop.
