Garbage collection vehicles
Overview
This guide introduces the blue and white garbage collection vehicles that residents see in the ward. It describes seven types, from the small press truck that collects most burnable garbage to the small dump truck for bulky garbage and the small discharge vehicle for non-burnable garbage. For each vehicle, the page says what it collects or carries.
The seven vehicle types
- Small press truck: the vehicle used most for collection. It loads garbage through a rear opening and compresses it. It collects burnable garbage. Medium and large press trucks of the same shape carry bulky garbage.
- New large special truck (tipping type): mainly used for large housing complexes. It collects burnable garbage. The new small special truck of the same shape collects cans.
- Large dump truck: two types, with or without a lid. It is used only for hopper collection of burnable garbage at the Takashimadaira housing estate.
- Small dump truck: collects bulky garbage. At a transfer station it is reloaded into a medium or large press truck, which takes the garbage to the bulky garbage crushing facility inside the Chuo Bohatei area in Tokyo Port.
- Light small dump truck: collects burnable and non-burnable garbage. It is a light truck with a tipping bed, used in narrow alleys.
- Light small cargo vehicle: used by the Fureai guidance team. It carries tools and materials to keep collection points clean, respond to resident requests and hand out awareness materials.
- Small discharge vehicle: collects non-burnable garbage and takes it to a sorting and recycling facility.
